What’s your favorite period in school? Recess! Everyone from Kindergarten, even through your college days loved our breaks where we have a time to sit down with friends over a nice meal or merienda.
This was the concept grasped by businessman Abe Tan and Chef Andric Clemente in visualizing a café that has sparked the eye of food hunters along N. Domingo in San Juan. Recess Café has started September of 2015 and the business is doing well and good.
Chef Andric is one of the most creative kitchen masters I have met. A veteran of more than a decade, his ingenuity and attack towards his patron’s palate is spot on. It is amazing how he makes crucial analysis of food so much that every dish has a lovely twist.
Abe Tan has a good eye for business operations; his insights and hands-on supervision make Recess Café a very competitive food joint along this gastronomic strip in San Juan.
The owners wanted to introduce healthful goodies in the menu - and in the process, the Japanese Salad and Som Tam were conceived. Fresh crunchy vegetables wrapped in rice paper. These are truly amazing dishes.
Recess Café’s Japanese Salad is their rendition of the Kani Salad in a wrap. It is garnished with a sprinkle of roe and sits on an exquisitely delicious miso mayo sauce. The rice paper has a very pleasant gelatinous texture that compliments the crunchy lettuce and veggies inside. The miso mayo sauce is heavenly! It is an original house recipe with a nice combination of tangy and sweet tastes.
