More Crabs
Smile 2013-11-22
There's one thing that is so amazing in Binondo, the food! It offers such a diverse cuisine that you can really stay there for several days and just go on several food trips. On this particular visit, we went to Uno Seafood Wharf to try the Steamed Crabs. Uno Seafood Wharf offers a diverse line of dishes that includes hot pots, oyster cakes and other seafood meals. They also serve Roast selections of pork, chicken and the like. The steamed crab we ordered I had requested for mostly female crabs to get more of the fat underneath the shell. We just chose the plain steamed crab because I did not want any spicy or sweet sauce to mask the fresh crab meat =)

The crabs were huge and steamed well too based on their bright red orange color. The meat was so tasty and full too. You know they serve only the best crabs. Even the claws were full of the delicious crab meat. Some of the crabs did not have much fat but those that did were plenty. A perfect place to eat for seafood, especially the steamed crab :

Best Post Christmas Dinner at UNO
Smile 2013-01-25
UNO Seafood Wharf Palace, located in the then shopping district of Escolta in Manila, is an authentic Chinese restaurant which boasts of it's great food, fast and friendly service and price. It was a great experience to have eaten here, thanks to my father, which called himself "the chinese foodie" in our family. I wasn't really sure as to where we were heading to at first, but he already told me earlier that day that we will be eating at UNO.

UNO? I asked myself, isn't it an italian restaurant? In Escolta? No way! Well, obviously I was wrong. UNO Seafood Wharf Palace may seem to be pricey at first, but for a family of five plus one kid, having to be coming from cubao to Escolta is worth the trip if you'd asked me.

UNO Seafood Wharf Palace has all the looks of how an authentic Chinese restaurant is for me. Different kinds of fresh seafood swimming in tanks, cold cuts and peking ducks hanging from their open kitchen, red and yellow colors all over the place for good luck, lazy susans, and freshly brewed tea before eating.

We appreciated the complimentary peanuts as soon as we started ordering some food.

Just to give you a background, what we ordered at UNO Seafood Wharf Palace is our standard set of dishes whenever we eat at Chinese restaurants. So let's get it on guys!

This lumpiang shanghai from UNO Seafood Wharf Palace is filled with a mixture of ground pork, shrimp and other chinese spices, rolled tightly into spring roll wrappers, and fried to perfection! Served with a bowl of basic yet yummy sweet and sour sauce, this lumpiang shanghai is extraordinary because of the tightly packed filling inside which resembles the texture of a pork dumpling. Yuhh-meeh!

Patatim is a staple in our Chinese dinners, and this one particularly is served with cuapao rolls filled with inconsistent layers of sweet corn. Plated neatly on a very large dish with Chinese bokchoy, the sauce of patatin from UNO Seafood Wharf Palace is more subtle in terms of the usual dominant aroma and flavor of star anise. It's not salty at all, but again, the sauce covers up the whole leg of pork with a velvety smooth finish. The meat itself is very succulent, and you may want to control yourself with getting the skin though. Its fatty but almost soft and sticky after taste from the flavorful skin of the pork is quite an indulging moment for me.

UNO Seafood Wharf Palace's Yang Show Fried Rice is a great accompaniment to all the viands that we ordered. Fluffy rice mixed with a mixture of cured meat, shrimps, green onions, egg and spices is love! One can eat this all by itself if they prefer to.

Stuffed Beancurd. A plate full of goodness! I specifically like eating beancurd because of it's health benefits, but stuff it with ground pork and shrimp, then stir fry it on a bed of tausi and soy sauce mixture and you are in for a treat! It's like I'm having a yoga class and party at the same time while eating it! This is my favorite dish during that time and I would love to go back to UNO Seafood Wharf Palace just to have this.

Pansit. My mother's favorite! At UNO Seafood Wharf Palace, you can fairly suggest if you want to use either bihon (thin glass rice noodles) or canton (a thicker noodle with a more of a yellowish color because the dough is mixed with eggs). Nevertheless, you can always be sure that their pansit is not dry at all. And for a small order, we did not even finish eating this because it's a lot and obviously we couldn't fit it anymore on our stomachs! Cooked with veggies, squid, and fish balls, this is a real treat, especially for our kid in the family/my sister's son, who seem to really like this dish.

By the time all the orders arrived on our table, it took quite while for me to think on which to eat first. And by the time I finished thinking about it, everything was already on my plate! Hahaha! I wouldn't miss this smile

Baby talk mode on: tummy happy!
But wait, UNO Seafood Wharf Palace is very generous to even give us some dessert of various fruits, without any charge! It all completes to a happy post christmas indeed!

For everything, we paid for 1,500++. Affordable? Yes!

I am looking forward to coming back here, maybe I should try their shrimps and crab dishes next time. And if you are in for a Nines vs. Food like treat, you can also come to UNO Seafood Wharf Palace to try their 9:00pm promo everyday, where they serve all their dimsum at lower prices until supplies for the day last. This, my friends, it yet another reason to come back at UNO Seafood Wharf Palace.

Check out this featured restaurant on the contact details as pictured above. They also serve for large functions like parties and meetings, so be sure to consider UNO Seafood Wharf Palace when in need of the tastiest, authentic Chinese dishes in this side of Binondo, Manila.

Chinese New Year in Uno Seafood Wharf Escolta
Smile 2012-01-26
What a way to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family in Uno Restaurant, Manila.

One thing we do as Chinese people is to dine and eat a full course set meal with our loved ones.

And last January 23, we just did that over dinner.

We had our usual appetizer of cold cuts which is served with a huge amount of century egg, pork liempo, chinese kikiam, jellyfish and slices of pork asado.

Everything was really good in my taste buds as it whet my appetite.

One after the other, our table was occupied with fried eel, steamed shrimp, crabs, fried pigeon with mantou bread drizzled with condensed milk which was really really good,
Steamed lapu-lapu, sea cucumber with vegetables, a hot bowl of sibut soup and noodles.

Everything is part of our set menu.

The food was very fresh and the taste was really authentic Chinese food recipe.

All I can describe about the food is that it's absolutely delicious! It really satisfied our starving stomach.

My favorite was the seafood selections. The eel, shrimp, crabs and lapu-lapu.

You can really tell that the food were fresh.

We also ordered one of its most popular dish which is the fried oyster.

My family is a fan of oyster whether be it raw, steamed, fried or however it is cooked. I suggest dipping the fried oyster in vinegar. It a bit crunchy in the outside but the oysters are very fresh and soft in the inside. Everything complements! Finally, our desserts came out, it’s mango sago. It tasted so sweet topped with mini-sago.

We had such a splendid time in Uno Seafood Restaurant!

Kung Hei Fat Choi as what we said to one another.

My Inaanak's Baptismal
Just OK 2011-10-11

I am invited and chosen as a ninang for my friends baby's baptismal. After the church ceremonies we proceed to the reception which is at Uno Seafood Restaurant in Binondo. The husband of my friend is a Chinese that's why they choose this place. Of course most of the food served were Chinese food, there are also dimsums and noodles, I actually dont know what are the other foods.

The food is good although I didnt eat those that I dont know. But noodles and dimsum is one of a kind. The ambiance is also perfect for this kind of celebrations.

Easter Sunday Dinner
Smile 2011-04-24

One of my favorites, UNO Seafood Wharf Palace Restaurant is located along Escolta Street in Binondo, the Chinatown district of Manila. It is very popular for big family gatherings on special events, specially birthdays and anniversaries.

My family had been here thrice in the past year so most of the service crew were already familiar with us. Today, we were fortunate to come early at 5:30 PM for dinner because there were 6 big reservations and nearly all function rooms and the main dining area
had all been taken. Only 3 round tables were available for walk-ins. There were only four of us in my family so we took the smallest table (all round tables) just beside the congee counter that could seat 6 diners.

For this treat, we ordered Hainanese chicken (P250), spinach with garlic (P220), salt and pepper spareribs (P300) and yang chow rice (P200). I will rate the taste and quality of these dishes from a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest.

My standard for Hainanese white chicken is the one I had feasted on from an authentic Hainanese restaurant in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia many years ago. The secret lies in the way the garlic-ginger sauce is prepared. I give UNO's white chicken a 3.

Hainanese White Chicken w/ Garlic-Ginger sauce

For the spinach with garlic dish, UNO gets a 4. My standard for this is the one served at Peter Lee Hongkong Tea House along Mabini street.

The salt and pepper spareribs gets a 4. For this dish, no one has yet beaten Wah Yuen's - in my opinion. Unfortunately, they have closed and I still have to see their comeback.

UNO's yang chow rice gets a 4. My standard for this is Han Pao at the Liberty Center in Mandaluyong.

As usual, hot tea was on the house and I got a bonus for having jasmine. The service crew were efficient and attended to our needs fast - excellent rating for that.

For a total bill of P970, that gets to an average of P242 per person - again, deserving my thumbs-up rating.

Parking was not a problem in front of the restaurant because we were early.

why you should try UNO restaurant
Smile 2011-03-04
UNO restaurant is one of the best Chinese restaurant we've tried. the food is good - they serve THE BEST chicken pie in the metro: crust is to die for and the chicken filling is finger-lickin good. they also serve two other dishes that we haven't found in any other chinese restaurant: OYSTERS XO and CHICKEN with crispy spinach and camote. the prices are reasonable. we were a group of 7 and we spent only about Php3,000! They also serve the usual live/fresh suahe and fish and crabs and lobsters. one down side thoug: parking. it's located in Escolta so parking could be quite a challenge. but for food adventurers like moi, it's worth the hassle!

happy eating!smile
