I've never been to Marikina before, so when my friend invited me to her event, I was excited because a. I get to see the place, and b. I get to taste the local cuisine in Marikina.
I wasn't expecting too much; I mean, how far off can Marikina's dishes be from Manila, right? But I was expecting to have something authentic and good, to eat somewhere I can say is "only in Marikina". My friend's event was in Kapitan Moy's cultural center, and luckily they had a restaurant that had a Maria Clara feel in it.
The place was very Noli Me Tangere. I actually expected Crisostomo Ibarra to come out of one of the windows. No one to that effect came out, but the place really was a relic. I remember the organizer saying "kids, don't run. This is a 200-year old building and it might just crumble if you run all at once." That statement gave me pretty much an idea of how old this place was. Too bad I was not able to take pictures of the place and the restaurant.
Now on to the food. My friend and I ordered crab and shrimp omelet (one of their best sellers) and garlic chicken. We thought each order was just good for one person, so we ordered two viands. When it arrived, we were surprised at how hefty their serving was. Even the rice cups were big. Good thing we were hungry then.
The omelet was really good. I thought they would just use crab sticks, but they didn't. They really used crab meat. And medium-sized shrimps. Yuuuummmmyyy.

The garlic chicken was also very goooood. It didn't taste like garlic at all, but it was really good still. The slices of chicken were crispy, but a bit boney.
I enjoyed my meal at Kapitan Moy's and everyone should try it out. Both for the ambience and the food.
