I have a friend who just came back from Singapore for a one-week vacation. When I went there, she was one of my hosts so I told her that when she gets home here, I’m going to take her to dinner wherever she wants.
She told me that there is this place in Timog that serves good baby back ribs. She read a review in the internet. I haven’t heard about it before which made it more exciting because it would be our first time to actually check out the place.
Rub Ribs & BBQ
My friend (not the balikbayan one
) and I got there first. The place is called RUB Ribs and BBQ
. So we decided to go inside, get a nice spot, and order food.
The place was quite small. A two-story establishment that has roughly 6 tables only. Good thing we got a place before it got crowded. The place was inspired by American diners wherein you see pictures of famous people with quotable quotes about life and music. There were pictures of famous artists/singers like the Beatles, James Dean, Bob Marley and many more. You could immediately assume that their food is western style.
I ordered what they called Singles (P199)
that contained of half slab of baby back rib, a choice of one side dish and rice
. There were a lot of side dishes to choose from and I chose Bacon and Potato Salad for my rib.
Rib, Potatoes, and Grilled Buttered Corn
I know it said half slab but for a petite person like me, it looked big enough to be shared by two persons. The side dish also has a very generous serving. When I started to cut the meat, it was soft and really tender. And the taste, it was really good and wasn't overcooked. The sauce was delicious. It wasn’t those typical BBQ sauces that tasted more of “sour-y” than sweet and spicy which I really love.
Since I liked my rib so much, I ordered extra siding of what they called Grilled Buttered Corn (P65)
. The corn was already shredded and was placed in a small bowl. It was good with my rib because the corn tasted a bit sweet and “buttery”. I could say two thumbs up for my baby back rib.
I wish I could say the same with my friend’s meal. She got their Chicken Cajun Pasta (P270)
. It’s fettuccine pasta topped with white sauce, some herbs or spices I guess and grilled chicken. What I think lacking in her food was the taste. I mean there wasn’t any saltiness in it despite our effort in putting some salt and pepper. Although it was white sauce pasta, I couldn’t find any hint of creaminess in her food. However, the grilled chicken was good so we ended up eating the chicken separately and dipped it to our BBQ Sauce.
When our balikbayan friend came, she ordered their super duo (P350)
, similar to mine but it was one whole slab of baby back ribs, two side dishes and rice
When we were done with our meal, the waiter suggested that we try their desserts Fried Oreo cookies with Vanilla Ice Cream (P150) and their dessert for the day, Coffee Crème Brulee (P140)
. Thank God we did because their Fried Oreo Cookies with Vanilla Ice Cream
deserved an applause. I wasn't able to take a picture of it because we were all too excited to take a bite.
The batter that was coated in the cookie is similar to cookie dough and the Oreo cookie inside the batter is super chewy. The trick in eating this dessert is to cut a small portion of the fried oreo cookie, put a small amount of vanilla ice cream and viola!
Our overall food experience was great but we needed to go somewhere else to continue our chit-chat because the place was small and there were a lot of people so we can barely hear each other.
I'm definitely going back there because there are more dishes I wish to try like their Buffalo Wings which looked very tasty, and Caesar Salad
. Until our next visit.
