Friday night chill out with the barkada. Liz has been telling me about this place for quite some time and this Friday, I decided to try it out. They’ve been to this place a few times now and I’m hearing good things about this new tambayan in the Makati Avenue – Jupiter area. My friends and I have booked our tickets to Singapore this November and we’re gonna meet up to discuss our travel plans. What better way to talk about our vacay? Over good food and beer, of course!
First up, the place. I’m giving full points for the ambiance and design of this restaurant. It was well lit, has high ceilings, and a nice wash area. This was a fairly new place along Jupiter which I guess explains the cool interior and cleanliness. Their smoking area is right up front while the non smoking airconditioned area is inside. The place was not crowded, considering it was post Friday.
Of course, there’s always the food. Their primary food fayre are chicken and pork, hence the name chic-boy (chicken at baboy). Their menu is mostly grilled and then there are their sizzling plates. Fast food style, you have to go up to the counter and order your favorite inihaw.
The sizzling bangus belly is big, a plus because it’s priced at just 85pesos. The mushroom gravy on top of the bangus was a bit weird for me, though. It was OK but I prefer my bangus with soysauce, sili and calamansi.
The pork and tuna sisig were both crispy and flavorful. It was very nice to pair with beer. Their Cebu lechon liempo tasted ordinary, but I am not complaining. San Miguel beer, which is priced at 180pesos a bucket, was served really cold. 6 beers for this much? Yumyum.
The lumpiang ubod was average, but I’m giving a plus point to the lumpia eggroll wrapper they used. The peanut sauce is a bit too sweet to my liking.
Tsichen and Niz ordered the turon (banana rolls) dessert. On their picture menu board, I first thought their lumpiang shanghai was misplaced because it was right next to desserts and drinks. Their turon was served in lumpiang shanghai sizes with caramel dipping sauce. The turon itself was bland, you really have to dip it to give it a sweet taste. I think it would be better if they would roll the saba banana in sugar before wrapping it up to give it more flavor.
Service was good and fast, until you ask for iced tea refill. At just 25 pesos with any meal, it was a sure steal, right? But we had to call several waiters’ attention three to four times before they gave us a refill. Marky even had a feeling that they really didn’t want to refill it because one the staff promised that he would, but never did. Oh well, you can’t have it all, I guess.
Would I return to ChicBoy? Yes. There aren’t many places now where you could enjoy food that is cheap and beer is cold.
