Dinner @ R&J
Smile 2013-04-16

We ate our dinner at R & J Bulalohan and what's on the menu? What else but their famous bulalo and aside from that, we also ordered broccoli at sizzling squid. It was a fulfilling night kasi nabusog kaming lahat and nakapag-bonding at the same time. I am slowly becoming one of the regulars here. smile

R & J Bulaluhan!
Smile 2013-03-30
Pangz and I hunt this place in Mandaluyong because of the hearsay's that this place is very known of their own Bulalo specialty. We finally found this place thru google and we finally hopped in to this place in our dinner time at R&J Bulalohan in Maysilo Circle, Plainview, Mandaluyong City. We tried right away their Special Bulalo for only two hundred sixty nine. It was served with a big cow knuckles and with a soft bone marrow and it was served with fresh vegetables on top and they will served it hot. The good thing was the soup and it was refillable as in bottomless. We ordered a lot of rice about 5 cups. Sa sabaw pa lang busog ka na! This place was filled of customers and no vacant tables as we have noticed but luckily we get a table for two. I will surely come back to this place and try other dishes that they served coz when I saw their menu, they have a lot of dishes that you will surely want to try.

R&J Bulaluhan Night
Smile 2013-01-25
For a whole week until today the rain hasn't stopped because of all the different low pressure areas hitting our shores. That's rain coming in and out of Manila for seven straight days! Yes, there might have been hints of sunshine from time to time but the weather remained strong and consistent with its windy skies, scattered showers and cloudy atmospheres. So with this comes my friendly reminder to be safe when going outdoors alright guys! With the mildly violent weather conditions taking place, you might be thinking of what food to devour yourself to on these cold rainy nights.

I, for one, have thought of the same thing a few weeks ago. It was during one of our after shift close-to-midnight foodtrips on a chilling rainy tuesday, and bf asked me if I knew of any place that offers hot piping soup aside of course from all the pares/mami joints in the metro. Since we were travelling from Taguig, I thought that we can pass by Boni first to grab a bite at R&J Bulalohan and Tapsilogan.

   Famous Bulalo

R&J Bulalohan and Tapsilogan ATBP is a widely popular 24-hour restaurant on the corner of Boni Avenue. It's just a corner away from the Mandaluyong City Hall and is a non-stop alfresco food joint reminiscent to a fairly large bahay kubo. On the downside, the restaurant itself is quite limited with space (or maybe because it was always jam packed with customers). It's literally sandwiched in other establishments such as a gas station and a generic drugstore. I think they can only accommodate up to 5 cars including double parking. Who knew that something good is cooking here?

I confidently refer to this place as widely popular. Why? Look around the place and notice their wall display. R&J Bulalohan have stood the test of time, as these walls were filled with signatures from celebrities and other popular public figures. As I observed, there were old staff pictures from some tv shows, entertainment shows, politicians, and a lot of thank you pictures specifically coming from Boy Abunda/ The Buzz family. With all the other bloggers raving about this place (myself included), I personally believe that this is definitely considered one of their selling points that attracts a lot of customers. But enough of the showbiz talk, let's get down to their major selling point, R&J's Famous Bulalo.

When I got their menu, it is evident enough that they have established themselves as a good bulalo restaurant by lookng at the list of food items on their menu. Surprisingly, not only do they offer one of the best bulalos in Manila, they also have grilled items, rice with egg combinations and other affordable package meals for individual or group servings. They also serve alcohol and woah, they even have a videoke spot for groups who would like to drink and be merry. We even get to hear a few songs from the other customers while eating at that time. I wasn't able to take a picture of the entire menu, but luckily, I found one online at MunchPunch and you can check it out here.

Anyway, we only ordered bulalo (which was about P200.00) and some rice, which is defined very well in a big container of salty, beefy broth with only a few of its natural oils deposited on the sides of the bowl. With a few irregular sized beef chunks and one piece of bone marrow, which apparently wasn't big enough compared to my previous visits. I perfectly remember the time when I was working as an account handler for a previous company wherein we usually come here at R&J with my working team after a day's event. There was even a time when I ate here for two consecutive nights. Unfortunately, after the second night, I felt a slight pain on my nape. I had too much bulalo meat at that time I guess smile

The soup was deliciously salty but it doesn't overpower the natural flavor coming from the beef chunks and bones, and you can enjoy this greatly with a heap of rice and your choice of sauce. Some use soy sauce, but I was brought up to enjoy this dish with a mixture of fish sauce and calamansi with fiery red siling labuyo/red chillies to intensifies more heat aside from the broth itself.

Apart from that, you can definitely muster getting an order extra rice here at R&J Bulalohan, especially when they get to offer get free soup refills, a complimentary offering from the restaurant which you can get upon your request. After me and bf 50/50 agreement on the bone marrow fat, there was no more room for idle chatting until we finished eating everything. Too bad we were not able to finish all of the soup. We were literally exhausted with it and figured, hey, we've had enough! We can always go back here if we can.

With a cult following amidst their secret location, we can always make sure that even in time differences, you can be enjoy their delicious food at very affordable prices sans the marketing strategies.

The best bulalo in town!
Smile 2013-01-25
The title tells it all. This R&J Bulalohan is the best bulalo here in Metro Manila. Since Leslie's are too far from the metro, why not try this one. They offer the best bulalo with a very affordable price. No need to go to batangas to experience this since we already have it near. After drinking beer or partying, we usually stop by to this place just to be sober even for a little.

Pancit sa Bulalohan
Smile 2013-01-16

   Pancit

Regular customer
Smile 2012-11-27

This is my 3rd review of this food chain and by now, it will be obvious that I am an avid fan and a regular customer of their famous bulalo. It is definitely a must try, the soup is very delicious and you will really taste the meat and the veggies. Need I describe what bulalo is? Well for those who doesn't know - Bulalo is a stewed beef bone marrow or oxtail with vegetables in broth.

Not just Bulalo
Smile 2012-10-26 (Related Review)

I went to R&J after office hours to have my dinner there and instead of their eponymous bulalo, I ordered chopsuey because I am craving for something crunchy which I found in some of the veggies here. I love it, it is actually better than I have expected as it really satisfied my craving and more. I am already a fan of this small eatery.

Not just Bulalo
Smile 2012-10-02

When I went to R&J Bulalohan, I thought it was a typical carinderia which serves just what they advertise, in this case, a Bulalo. But they actually have a lot of food choices to choose from and I bought a pancit for myself instead of their eponymous bulalo. It was delicious although a little oily but it was OK.

Best Bulalo in Mandaluyong
Smile 2012-09-24

It was such a great experience when I and my family decided to have our dinner at R&J Bulalohan.. If you have not been in here yet, I would recommend for you to come and try their delicious treats. You can visit them at Maysilo Circle, Plainview in Mandaluyong City. I would have to recommend for you to order their Nilagang Bulalo because RJ offers the best bulalo in town. When I had it through the meal, I did not really get disappointed. Damage to the budget will usually range from 150.00 php to 200.00 php and it is definitely worth it!, I wanted to try their other amazing delights but did not get the chance. Next time I will when I come back to at R&J Bulalohan in Mandaluyong City!

Bulalo just for hubby and I

   Special Bulalo

 Hubby is eating

After our night shift work we decided to have our breakfast in our favorite bulaluhan which is R&J Bulalohan in Mandaluyong just a few blocks away from the City Hall. We really love the bulalo here, specially the special one. Upon arriving we got a good seat, their place is not that cozy but it really invites even rich people since the food is really good. We ordered for Crispy Pata for take out and special bulalo for us. The bulalo comes with a big bone with a lot of bone marrow in it. This is really yummy. The hot soup relaxes our body after the stressful work.

My hubby loves this place, because the people are accommodating and friendly. Aside from that the place is spacious a good place to drink beer as well. The price is just right, I spent 350 pesos for the pata and 250 for the bulalo. The serving is really big as well. Sulit dito.

Smile 2012-08-15

we took our dinner at R & J 's Bulalohan but instead of their famous bulalo, we ordered their inihaw na pork chop. Masarap din ito lalo na yung sawsawan, panalo! Nakakagutom talaga at parang lutong bahay lang pero super like ko yung mga foods nila dito, perfect for large gatherings at sa super gutom. I will be here again in no time.

The Best Bulaluhan in Town!
Smile 2012-06-21

It was such an amazing experience visiting R&J Bulalohan in Maysilo Circle, Plainview, Mandaluyong City. I decided to try it from the recommendation I have heard from my colleague. I always hear good things about it so I was kind of curious. Aside from the excellent dishes that they serve, like Bulalo- their best seller and specialty, I have to commend R&J Bulalohan for its fast and satisfying customer service. Damage to the budget will usually at the price range of 150.00 pesos to 200.00 pesos and it is definitely worth it! I would highly recommend dining in R&J Bulalohan in Maysilo Circle.

Beer and Bulalo Time
Smile 2012-06-11
Price: P 500

Description: Sizzling Seafoods like Squid

Personal Review: What’s a rest day if you cannot use it to relax and rest as the name suggests. Well, we (my friends and I, that is) didn’t rest, technically, but at least we relaxed at the nearby R&J Bulalohan where we enjoy some beers, sea foods and of course, their signature bulalo. It was, as Drew Arellano’s signature phrase says, Certified Rapsa! It was sweat-inducing, heart pumping and adrenaline rushing to say the least. The sizzling squid was a perfect match for the liquor as well as it’s spicy taste complements the cold beers. Needless to say, it was one rest day to remember.

Coming Back in R & J!
Smile 2012-04-25

It was nice coming back at R and J Bulaluhan in Plainview Maysilo Circle, Plainview, Mandaluyong City. It was from the recommendation I have heard from my friend who’s very fond of going back over and over again on this Bulaluhan. The last time I went here, I was with my kabarkada. It was around 11 in the evening already when we went there and it was still open- got so many customers and guests that time. It was a bit crowdy but the management was able to manage everyone. Damage to the budget will usually range from 100.00 pesos to 200.00 pesos and it is definitely worth it! I would highly recommend R & J for a perfect BULALO!
