Dining at Panciteria LIDO Cocina Tsina

   Brocolli

Steamed Fish Fillet Soy Sauce | P255

   Drunken Lechon Macau | P257

   Lido Fried Rice

Since I met P, I started eating at a Chinese cuisine restaurant once in a while (hmmm… once a week?), from the oldest existing restaurant to the new one. Maybe, he, having a family that loves to eat in a Chinese restaurant, just wanted me to try where they usually eat-out.

Furthermore, Panciteria LIDO Cocina Tsina which is also has a branch in Chino Roces, Makati City (where we ate) is considered as one of the oldest among the restaurant that offers Chinese cuisines. The first branch which is located at Binondo, Manila was started in 1963 by Mr. Lido and through nostalgic cravings for “pugon roasted asado,” which was invented from prehistoric Chinese pork roast recipe that uses an old-fashioned brick oven, it made it to be famous that the generation of today can still savour the same taste, a 70 years old secret recipe.

Meanwhile, from the photos above, these are the foods that we’ve ordered:

(1) Drunken Lechon Macau (P257). Dipped in finest wines and special spices, this 60-hour cured pork belly is a must-try! This one is also an all-time favourite aside from the well-known pugon roasted asado.

(2) Steamed Fish Fillet Soy Sauce (P255). So flavorful fish fillet, the soy sauce has special spices that made the dish extra special and sumptuous. It is perfectly suited for the Lenten Season, too. ^_^

(3) Brocolli with … (arghhhh… I forgot the name and exact price but it ranges from P150-P200). The taste was good, it was like vegies sautéed on a spices.

(4) Lido Fried Rice (P65 / P205 (good for 3-4 persons)). And to complement the entire dish above, Lido Fried Rice will definitely do. Moreover, Lido Fried Rice alone could probably make your dining well and fills your empty tummy and of course, satisfaction comes with a burp that would surely burst out afterwards.

So, if you’re looking for an old-fashioned cooked dish then Panciteria LIDO Cocina Tsina is definitely one of the finest restaurants that offer succulent and time-tested Chinese cuisines.

Secret Recipe of Lido
Smile 2011-08-18
During my last week at work was a pretty stressful moment for me. Had to think of the next step, what to do next and basically hunt for a new job and to just make my night my friends including my boyfriend decided to just chill after we got out of work and have a great dinner together. They came to pick me up at work and from their we went scouting for a place to eat. I was suggesting a restaurant that's not too expensive and at first they opted pizza that was just right around the corner from where I used to work. The guys didn't feel like having pizza instead wanted something fulfilling and that had rice.

Then just at the same row as the pizza parlor there was a new restaurant, it showed since, there were a lot of balloons displayed and I've never seen that restaurant before. I was one step to saying NO!!! haha because it was Chinese food. As I've mentioned before, I have nothing against Chinese food its just that with my family we always end up eating Chinese food ever since I was a kid. In the end, I lost haha it was 3 against 1.

Ambiance and ServiceThe place is quite small, most probably can serve around 30 guests I think. The walls are decorated with the food that they serve and in one side of the restaurant is a description of how the restaurant started. Their specialty of course is their Pugon Roasted Asado.

As for the service, the waiter who attend to us was very friendly, helped us go through the menu and suggested a couple of dishes that we might enjoy other than their special Roasted Asado. Then he mentioned to us that the dishes that they serve were all good for sharing which is why at first glance the prices in the menu look pretty expensive, ranging from 200 - 300 per dish.

Food

Roasted Asado - this was surely a hit, and the meat was tender and melted in your mouth. Yes meat that melts in your mouth haha. It was flavorful plus, it was a big portion, really good for sharing. It was delicious to eat on its own but still great to go with rice.

Shrimp Balls - another dish full of flavor. At first I thought the shrimp inside the ball has been sliced and diced but instead they preserved the delicious treat into one piece of meat which makes it more appetizing and appealing and it has a little crunchy bite to it to give it a little texture. Since, its a dry dish it comes with a sweet sauce that compliments the dish pretty well.

We also ordered a veggie dish which I forgot the exact name. All I could remember was that it had broccoli in it and that was the main veggie in the dish haha. I am a fan of broccoli and I absolutely enjoyed this dish. The broccoli was soft and cooked well, just the way I like it and it had a buttery taste to it which made it even more delicious which I believe would be enjoyed by non vegetarians specifically kids haha.Last but not the least, the dish that goes well with all the food we ordered was rice.

I have no idea why I always frown when we go to a Chinese restaurant but leave with a happy and filled tummy especially in this specific restaurant. A must visit for sure.
