Crispy Leche Flan
Smile 2013-11-19

After our sumptuous meal at mesa, we tried their crispy leche flan for desert. Everybody was curious about it's taste so we give it a try. Upon serving, it was just like the typical turon merienda of pinoy but upon biting on it, it was a blast of all the sweetness of the leche flan. It was very sweet and delicious. Though for someone like me who's not into sweets, it's best to share it with friends because one piece of this crispy leche flan is enough for me.

Mesa's squid
Smile 2013-09-26

Squid

I had a dinner date with my mom and decided to bring her at Mesa. Aside from the filipino ambiance, I want my mom to try their delicious filipino cuisine. I am not expecting mom to order squid because she's old and not sure if she can chew it well, but since it's her craving we decided to order one.

I was surprised how soft and tender the squid was that my mom enjoyed eating it. The way it was cooked was not the traditional squid we usually had. Despite pricey, will definitely go back to date mom again.

Filipino Food in Mesa!
Smile 2013-03-30
It's time for us to have a break and chillax at tomas morato to have a night filled with chatting with my friend. We have a lot of catching up after two years of no hearing something from each one of us. We decided to had our dinner first at Mesa Filipino Moderne in 264 Tomas Morato cor. Sct. Fernandez Quezon City. We tried their On The Rocks they called it Rikki's Favorite a river shrimp or swahe steamed together with literally small round rocks and seasoned with some spices and sprinkled with parsley for two hundred eighty pesos. We also tried their Bangus Belly a daing (deep fried) bangus belly with tons of garlic bits on the top for two hundred seventy pesos. Lastly we ordered their Crispy Boneless Pata for four hundred twenty pesos. We enjoyed their dishes and we ate it with a simple chat and a lots of laughter. The place was filled with great food and with a great company of friends who loved to eat and loved to chat.

LOVE this place!
Smile 2013-03-26
LOve this place!!!!!

This place is located infront of chili's along tomas morato.

The place caters to around 80 persons and has 2 private function rooms if i am not mistaken.
They serve Filipino food with a twist here. We ordered lechon 2 way, 2 way laing, crispy pata, karekare and a few others i forgot.

Anyway this is what the lechon 2 way looks like.

   lechon 2 way

(picture taken by c. palmares, the picture i took was accidentally deleted in my iphone)

it is first presented to the table. A server prepares and serves the wraps with 3 kinds of sauces. The normal lechon sauce, garlic mayo, and haoisin sauce.
It is wrapped in pandan wrappers and is just like peking duck but it has lechon in it. The other parts of the lechon are then cooked in another preferred way.

The laing is served 2 ways. One is rather dry and crunchy while the other is soggy and wet.

Kare kare was just like any. Peanut made sauce and is partnered with bagoong.

The restaurant is chic clean and somewhat new compared to others. The service was spot on.
The washroom is clean but small. Wash areas are provided for. For the price, i believe it is worth paying for. It may not be affordable but it is quite okay.

One thing i noticed with this resto is that when one asked/orders for takeouts, they would let one sign a waiver expressing that the food may no longer be fresh.

Winnnning Squid
Smile 2012-09-16
I don’t know what it with Mesa but I feel that I should visit it time to time. Maybe because of what I said from my previous review that I find the place really good. I enjoy spending my time there talking and eating with my friends. This time, I decided to try their grilled squid. Actually, at first I don’t know what to order but the group of friends beside our table ordered a squid and I really love how it looks and smell. You know, I believe that if a food smells good then it also taste good. I was not disappointed when I got my order. The squid from Mesa is grilled perfectly! Its not “malangsa” its soft to eat, its moist and appetizing. As usual I overate again.

Before the Party & Booze!
Smile 2012-07-31
Before we go to the party and booze we decided to visit Mesa Filipino Moderne at 264 Tomas Morato cor. Sct. Fernandez Quezon City, Tomas Morato, together with my friends boom and choco. We ate our dinner first before heading to the club. So we ordered Fried Tilapia and Fried Rice, the food here was good and for a fraction of a cost we alreay filled our tummy and enjoyed the great dinner at Mesa. The place was so cozy and the ambiance was great you will trully love this place and this place is a must for budget conscious like us coz the serving here was good for 3 to 4 persons. Maybe next time we will try other Mesa branches around the metro with my super kalog friends. It was a good night and full of laughter and a great night life.

Dinner @ MESA!
Smile 2012-06-11
It was such a great experience dining in at Mesa Filipino Moderne in 264 Tomas Morato cor. Sct. Fernandez Quezon City. I was with my two good friends the last time I visited the said restaurant. We decided to try it from the recommendation we have heard from our high school friends. Mesa has lots of culinary delights to offer. It never failed to satisfy my cravings for different Filipino dishes. You can enjoy their delicious treats at the price range of 250.00 pesos to 300.00 pesos but you will definitely not regret it. I would highly recommend Mesa Filipino Moderne in Tomas Morato to my other friends, too!

The Sophomore Slump
Smile 2012-03-18
I visited Mesa for the second time around this year for a Valentines' Day Lunch with my mom, and her two sisters. Sadly though, it wasn't as memorable as the first!

We decided to order their Tofu Sisig (P130) and their Baked Scallops with Garlic Butter (P210) which I have previously reviewed before.

My mom decided to order their Swahe on the Rocks (P280) which was interestingly served in a claypot which was steaming hot. The drama of the plating would surely build you up!

However, the drama definitely built up our expectations that tasting the shrimps themselves was definitely a let-down. They were cooked wonderfully BUT essentially, they were quite bland and typical.

We also ordered their Adobo in its Own Ink (P250) which featured tender squid meat; however, its sauce wasn't as flavorful and sour as it should be ideally.

   Adobo in its Own Ink

We also tried their Sigarillas (P180); a wing bean dish cooked in coconut milk. I found it quite pleasant; although it wasn't a memorable dish, the crunchiness of the vegetables gave it an added gastronomical dimension!

   Sigarillas

We also ordered the Laing Fried Rice (P145), which was actually quite pleasant.

For dessert, we enjoyed their Pandan Macapuno Rumble (P70) which was a light and delightful dessert! The crisps that came with certainly gave it an interesting twist!

   Pandan Macapuno Rumble

We also had their triangular Turon without Ice Cream (P45) , which was superbly good! This was definitely the dish which stood out during the meal!

Welcoming the New Year at Mesa!
Smile 2012-01-14
My family welcomed the new year by celebrating lunch in Mesa. My family have always been BIG FANS of La Mesa Grill, back when it was still operational in Trinoma. Thus, we wanted to see how similar it is to La Mesa and whether we would love it as much.

Excited to see that our favorite appetizer was still on the menu, we immediately ordered their
Baked Scallops with Garlic Butter. Although, it wasn't as good as we expected it to be, it was still quite a lovely dish. I believed that the garlic bits were quite over-toasted which gave the dish an unflattering bitter taste.

   Baked Scallops with Garlic Butter

They didn't have the Squid Sisig on their menu (my absolute favorite) so we ended up ordering their Tofu Sisig which featured beautiful crispy tofu beautifully seasoned with onions, garlic and drizzled with a beautiful sweet sauce.

   Tofu Sisig

We decided to try their Chicken BBQ in Honey Patis which was really tasty since the meat was tastefully marinated.

   Chicken BBQ in Honey Patis

The Crispy Boneless Fish Served with Four Sauces was also another delightful treat as we had fun dipping the crispy fish chunks in the different sauces.

We sampled their Drunken Ostrich as well. Although the meat was cooked wonderfully, the sauce was too sweet for my liking.

   Drunken Ostrich

We also ordered their interesting Laing 2 Ways dish which featured a dry and saucy version of the classic dish. The saucy version was a tad bit better option than the dry one because of its beautiful gata flavor, but the dish itself was quite unsatisfying. The taste was quite "tiring" and simply failed to entice our taste buds.

Mesa: Great Filipino Food with a Modern Twist
Just OK 2011-08-25

Main entrance - photo from gototravel.org

Getting together with a long lost friend is always best over good food in a good restaurant. This is exactly what we did when my friend from way back decided to reunite and do all the catching up over a sumptuous dinner. Since we're both from Quezon City, we decided on the restaurant we haven't tried yet. We agreed on Mesa Filipino Moderne as the best choice, with my prodding of course. I first heard of Mesa via TV, when it was covered by ABS-CBN and interviewed Sen. Kiko Pangilinan who partly owns the chain of Mesa in the Metropolis. Since I'm a true-blooded Sharonian, I learned to love Kiko, so Mesa is a must-try.

 interior- from 3748miles.blogspot.com

The interior of the Tomas Morato branch is very rich in texture, the use of bamboo and rattan in (Cobunpue-ish style) is maximized, to exude Filipino ambience. Fixtures especially the huge cushioned chair is eye-catching and the warm lighting is very flattering for the dishes served and friendly for shutterbugs.

   Pomelo Salad with Latik

First we tried the Pomelo Salad with Latik, which I find a bit disappointing, I just can't find the logic of mixing gata with pomelo. When it mashes up in the mouth the taste is absurd, maybe it's an acquired taste but really not a good combination.

   Laing Two ways

Then we ordered the well-loved Bicolano dish laing, Mesa calls its version Laing Two Way. It's served in two square dish one is the saucy laing and the other is drier version. I preferred the saucy one because I get to taste more of the gata. As always I end up ordering extra rice for the rest of the Laing on the table. smile

Adobo Squid in its own Ink

And then we ordered adobong pusit because I assumed that you can never go wrong with adobong pusit. Rightly so, their baby squid is very tender, nicely done with the ink and all, but I find it wanting of patis or salt. But overall its really great with plain rice.
Of course all dishes must be gulped down by a cool, refreshing drink, the good old Sago't Gulaman and their House Lemonade.
