I couldn't remember the last time I went to French Baker
. If my memory serves me right, I think it was when I was still in college. I'm not going to tell you the year anymore. Definitely it was ancient history. French Baker
isn't just famous for their breads and pastries or their 20% off deal starting 8PM until closing. Actually, they are also known for serving good food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Last weekend, my friend and I had the opportunity to visit French Baker
in Alimall Cubao.
I was really surprised when I saw their place. It was not the usual French Baker that I got used to going for the past years. Tables and chairs were different. It's fancy similar to fine dining restaurants. They even have flowers in the middle of the table. And their house water, served with lemon, and mint. Many has really changed and I could say it was for the better. I just hope the quality of their food didn't.
You don't need to go to counter anymore to order. There are attendants who roam around the restaurant to get your order. The menu is already placed in your table. The only time that you need to get up and go to the counter, is to pay the bill. Since WI-FI is very famous to some establishments especially coffee houses, they are now also offering them for free. I can really say the French Baker
is coping up with the new trend.
The physical feature is not the only thing that changed, even their set of meals were upgraded. There are so many selection to choose from. But as for me, I still stick to what I got used to. . .Beef Lasgna
. It is still the same meaty and also cheesy lasgna I've been enjoying for over a decade now. The serving is still quite big, good for two so you really know your money's worth.
My friend was more of a chicken lover. She tried their Chicken Cordon Bleu
which wasn't available or wasn't yet introduced when we used to go there. It is served with a one-piece crispy chicken on top of a mashed potato, complimentary soup, rice in a triangular shape, and steamed mixed vegetables. Even the presentation was new and appealing.
Chicken was well cooked. Cheese was so creamy. You can really savor it from the moment you tear the chicken apart. Mixed vegetables weren't overcooked so it's a bit crunchy that made it yummy. I could say that I also enjoyed my friend's meal because we love sharing and exploring each others' meal. That's why we always have this agreement to order different types of meal so we both can enjoy it.
And as for our dessert, I ordered Carrot Bar
. It's a bread cut as long as the usual garlic sticks that we get every time we order pasta but it is thicker. It was really good. I mean it wasn't as sweet as the other cakes, it doesn't have any icing or whatsoever. Sometimes simplicity has it's way to please you.
I definitely recommend French Baker
to those people who love good food but not into fine dining. It's just a casual restaurant with a twist. It can be very intimate or can also be for friends who just want to chat and hang-out. I also recommend this for families.
