Cheesecake by Cafe 1771
Smile 2013-11-04
Right after dinner at Chateau 1771 at Greenbelt, Citibank SMILES officers gave us a few take home items. One of which was the delicious cheesecake at Cafe 1771!

It was beautifully wrapped in a box customized for the institution at Ortigas.

 Take-out box

Upon getting home, we opened the box the we found the cheesecake had also been customized and it now looks like the Citi Smiles logo they use for the campaign.

   Cheesecake by Cafe 1771

The cheesecake is not the baked type but it's rather the frozen type where the crust is made of grahams and molded round by using a cake ring. The cream cheese is poured on top of the crust and then the cake is frozen for it to have a form.

The cheesecake itself is really good and if paired with coffee or tea, it brings up the taste even more!

Next time when we're at Pasig, we're trying this resto.

Heavenly desserts
Smile 2012-11-26
I like going to this restaurant because of its amazingly cozy ambiance and the desserts that really make you go "ooohhh" the whole time. I recommend this place for people who would want to take their partners out on a date. The food is good and the vibe gives off the romantic feel. Will definitely come back here and bring my boyfriend along. It's warm and inviting to people who would just want to relax.

Anniversary Desserts
Smile 2012-11-22

My girlfriend and I have this soft spot for desserts, that is why on our anniversary, I took my girlfriend to Cafe 1771 in El Pueblo, Ortigas to eat heavenly desserts there. My girlfriend ordered Evasion while I ordered the Chocolate Opera Cake.

Evasion is very creamy and every bite melts in your mouth. I enjoyed it so much kahit na pinatikim lang siya sa akin ng girlfriend ko. Mine is the Chocolate Opera Cake. It is made from dark chocolate and I liked that it has a lot of chocolate in it. By the end of the night, we went home all smiles because we really appreciated the great desserts offered by Cafe 1771.

Cafe 1771: Quaint and Great!
Smile 2012-11-03
This Eat’s a Date from OpenRice Philippines was actually my second time to visit Café 1771 – the first was then my hubby Tim took me there on our anniversary. Of course, the food was great, and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. This second time was no different, as we were treated to good food (especially the desserts!) that I enjoyed as whole.

To begin with, we were seated upstairs in the Wine Bar 1771 area (see hubby’s post about it here), because the Café 1771’s spaces aren’t really for big groups – which is why it’s more suited for dates and the like. The interiors are also lighter and carry a more casual feel as compared to the more serious tone of the design upstairs. I liked the seeming ‘touch of home’ feel to the space, which really makes it much more comfortable to be in.

We began with some light dishes, which included the Fried Squash Flowers (Php280), Spaghetti with Sardines and Fried Capers (Php290), and the Salbacho Pizza. The mains were the Organic Chicken in Potato Crust (Php550), Orange Pork Spareribs (Php450), and the Wine Bar Burger (Php410).

The Fried Squash Flowers were surprisingly good, and were a great way to start the whole dining experience. Light and crunchy but not oily or nakakaumay, I really liked them. The Salbacho was also good, and I like the way the toppings weren’t too heavy – just right, especially considering that the pizza was a thin crust.

Where the mains are concerned, I’m not a big burger fan, but I do understand why the Wine Bar Burger was such a big hit, especially with the guys, my husband included. He absolutely loves bulalo (beef bone marrow), which you spread on the burger before you eat it. It’s guy food and a heart attack waiting to happen (LOL). The Orange Pork Spareribs and Organic Chicken in Potato Crust I enjoyed much, much more, and were among my faves of the night.

Dessert time was naturally the highlight of the night for me, with the Amandelle (Php300) and the Gianduja Truffle Mousse Cake (Php250). The Amandelle I particularly enjoyed the most, because of the fudgy texture, plus the nuts and the bit of citrusy twang you get from time to time. It was a great way to end a very wonderful dining experience.

Café 1771 is definitely one of my fave restaurants – although the price range relegates it to ‘special occasions’ – and I’d like to thank OpenRice and Café 1771 for a great night filled with great food.

Delectable Delights at Café 1771
Smile 2012-11-03
There’s always a certain charm when you try something out for the first time. You feel invigorated and your brain goes like, “Ay, ganun pala yun?” Whether or not your experience was good or bad, that first time will always be memorable.

For most things, it simply follows that the second time, third time, fourth time, and so on isn’t going to be as much of a blast as the first. However, that’s not really the case when it comes to Café 1771.

I first became familiar with the Chateau 1771 group of restaurants during the Eat’s a Date event by OpenRice at Wine Bar 1771 last December (read the full review and concept for Café 1771, Wine Bar 1771 and Sidebar here). Suffice to say, it was wonderful. Wonderful enough, in fact, for me to take my wife back to the place for our first wedding anniversary. That time though, we decided to eat at Café 1771 instead, and despite the hefty bill at the end, I (we) have no regrets.

Naturally, when I found out that OpenRice was doing an Eat’s a Date at Café 1771, I practically jumped at the opportunity to join, deadlines and officework be damned.

First off, the ambiance. As opposed to Wine Bar and its very ‘male’ feel, Café 1771 sports a much brighter interior, making it more neutral. While the library-ish theme is also used here, the lighting and the design as a whole make a lot of difference in terms of how the space is perceived. Most of tables are small and round, most of them with matching lounge chairs, giving it a much more relaxed and laid back atmosphere. The table sizes also make it apparent that it’s meant for couples and much smaller groups. Small details here and there – like the teas – as well as the pastry display, complete the café feel.

With regard to the food, I’ve no complaints at all. That I thoroughly enjoyed their Fried Squash Flowers (Php280) despite having an intense dislike of vegetables in general – squash included – already speaks volumes. Another favorite was the Wine Bar Burger, which while heftily priced at Php410, was also hefty on taste.

I didn’t get to taste the Spaghetti with Fried Sardines and Capers (Php290) this time around, but did during the Wine Bar event – so if they haven’t changed the recipe in a significant way, my impression of their pasta dishes as not really worth the price still stand. Their Orange Pork Spareribs (Php450) was a bit meh for me as well, but that might just be because I’m not a big fan of stews or pork in general.

How tasty is slow-baked, juicy chicken covered with cracked potato chips? VERY TASTY. Tasty skin outside and moist and full of flavor inside made Café 1771’s Organic Chicken in Potato Crust another highlight of the night.

And of course, a Café 1771 experience would hardly be complete without a sampling of their cakes, pastries and other saccharine goodies. They have a pastry chef specifically for their sweet offerings, and it shows, not only in the presentation but in the taste as well. I got to try the Amandelle (Php300), and the Gianduja Truffle Mousse Cake (Php250). Both were sublime. It was a shame we had to break the things down so we could eat them.

All in all, Café 1771 proved to be an enjoyable and memorable experience once again, and if budget permits, I might be paying the place another visit one of these days, with the wife in tow. Like I said, there are places you can only bear to go to once, but Café 1771 is definitely one of those places you want to keep going back to.

Desserts

{ Amandelle. Php300. Milk chocolate mousse in between layers of orange creme brulee and caramelized apricot and almond dacquoise }

This is so good, melts-in-your-mouth-chocolate-goodness with a tinge of orange. This might look like a personalized portion but this is good for sharing. Unless you want to have a sore throat after eating a rich, thick chocolate!

{ Rose Noire. Php250. Layered dark chocolate ganache, meringue, hazel nut praline topped with chocolate glaze }

I must admit that I haven’t been fair with this dessert, since I first tried Amandelle. I got so focused with it that I forgot I still have this other chocolate dessert. By the time I remembered, I also couldn’t it anymore. I was in dessert coma. I vowed to try this solely again next time.

Knick-knacks

And look! Just before heading out, I saw they are selling some cutesie-patootsie stuff – accessories, stationery, etc. So cute!

The fries is not soggy and does not taste like it’s drenched in oil. Just the right saltiness too.

Cafe 1771, a taste of European Charm
Just OK 2012-10-24
Part 1/3

The minute I entered Cafe 1771, I fell in love with its interiors. It’s basically divided into two spaces — The Lounge and The Whimsy.

Interiors

The Lounge

Located on the left side as you enter the front door is The Lounge which has a library feel where guests can have breakfast, lunch or dinner with a sense of privacy. Tall French windows overlook ADB Avenue. It is ideal for business meetings, entertaining clients and foreign visitors or a casual feel-good lunch or dinner. Service is hushed and personalized. Half of The Lounge can be partitioned into a private room for twenty persons.

Lunch and dinner fare is hearty with cocottes, stews and casseroles, a sprinkling of appetizers, salads, pastas and grilled items. Chateau favorites such as Tomato Cheese Fondue, Raclette, Pasta Chorizo and Lemon Chicken make a comeback in this side of town. Breakfast is both quaint and modern Filipino. Desserts are top-notch in the Chateau tradition but in petite, personalized portions.

The Whimsy

A stylish semi-self service deli-café that makes you feel like you stepped on the train and zoomed into Europe. The centerpiece is a fancy counter that beckons you to come over and place your order with our specialist manager behind the counter and is trained to expertly help you compose your meal. The Whimsy is fun, charming, light, airy and very casual while at the same time striking and elegant.

The Whimsy specializes in Swiss Cheese Toast which can be topped with prosciutto, home-made ham or grilled vegetables. It also serves freshly made hot and cold gourmet sandwiches and pizzas. You will delight in the wonderful finds in our counter from baked scones, cookies and sweets to pot pies, salads, and pop-in-the oven casseroles for take out. Chateau’s famous Coffee Pie can be ordered for take out too, in slices or in whole. The Whimsy is also open for breakfast and serves the same menu as The Dining Room.

Next up is The Food! Stay tuned for Part 2/3. lol

Cafe 1771: A Stylish and Cozy Cafe at the Heart of
Smile 2012-10-20

At the heart of the busy streets of Ortigas lies a place where great food and cozy ambiance meets in a very fancy way. I have walked pass Cafe 1771 a lot of times and I would try to peek through their windows wondering what does this stylishly decorated cafe offers. I had eaten here once at an event but I was not able to savor the food served during the event because I was in a hurry to go back to the office. It was only last week when I had the chance to wander through the cafe in amazement at the daintiest and stylish detail of the place. The Cafe has two parts: The Lounge and The Whimsy.

Salbacho Pizza (Php 380)
Napolitaine Sauce, Salami, Bacon, and Chorizo, Mozarella, Basil

The best I have ever tasted on the dinner table that night. Yes, call me biased but I am in love with pizza. When I saw this being served by the waiter, I can't stop but stare at the mouthwatering toppings. I would usually drown my pizza and burger with tomato ketchup but I refused to do such habit that night. I tried to savor every bite. I love the thin crust which is slightly crunchy. The blend of the topping tastes so good, I can finish half of this pizza, I swear.

Winebar Burger (Php 410)
I am not a fan of burger but this one is an exception. The patty was made with thick angus beef grounded and fried into perfection. There a hint of organic fusion in every bite. I also love the fries. It was not too oily and it tastes like a top notch home made juicy fries sans the weird taste of fastfood fries.

Orange Pork Spareribs (Php 450)
Stewed in a long-simmered sauce made of soy sauce, orange juice, garlic and ginger

I never expected this to be a part of the Cafe's menu. This was a very tasty meal that calls for a serving of rice! The taste was very Asian - sweetness and saltiness intertwined. The pork was very tender and the sauce was indeed with a hint of orange.

The best part was the desserts. It was literally like opening a box of the finest gourmet chocolates.

lol

Coffee Pie (Php 220)
Made of coffee filling on chocolate cashew crust with cream topping and toffee sauce.
Whenever I go to a restaurant, the first thing I would ask the waiter is "what is your best seller?" As for this pie right here, it is indeed their best seller and their signature dessert. The pie melts in your mouth in utter goodness of coffee and caramel. This is a must ordered dessert if you will have the chance to dine at Cafe 1771.

Over all, my dining experience was awesome and the desserts are simply unforgettable. The price of the food ranges from 250-950 pesos. Forget the malls around the area in Ortigas, you will definitely find satisfaction in this cozy place and the food selection is indeed irresistible. tongue

El Pueble Breakfast!
Just OK 2012-10-18
Before going to work I decided to have my breakfast in Café 1771 at El Pueblo Complex, Julia Vargas Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. I'm very hungry that time and I cant help my self to not eat coz i didnt ate dinner last night. I keep on thinking where to eat and I want real food that time so I had choose this place. I ordered Grilled Hungarian served with Potato Salad for the price of three hundred thirty pesos and the serving was so few. It was too expensive for a real meal like this and I cant turn back now and it's so embarrasing if I transfer and not even ordering a single dish from this restaurant. I just ate it slowly just to feel this expensive breakfast but kinda no regrets coz the potato salad was so delicious and the hungarian sausage was so yummy and jiucy as well. I score this place 7 out of 10 because of the cost.

First date in a night before my birthday
Smile 2012-10-18

A bookworm’s café. A perfect dining place for readers and couple who may want a nice and quite environment to eat and enjoy food. Café 1771 is located at El pueblo, Ortigas, Pasig City. A perfect combination of modernnization in ancient times. The staffs were well-groomed and friendly.

These mouthwatering dessert's will invite you to take a break and enjoy the luscious flavor of each and every unique dessert. Coffee pie is one the their cakes that I love most because of its unique bitterness and sweet taste.

A popcorn would be a good appetizer to start your dinner and having conversation with your friends.
Their main dishes, salbacho pizza is a thin crust pizza that you could taste the richness of tomato sauce and cheese with herbs. Their organic chicken is quite light in taste and you could say is herb-ed-lemon tasted chicken. Angus beef burger would be a good burger characteristic because of its pureness of Beef-only patty flavored with fresh lettuce and cheese. It is served with tasty bone marrow and fries.

Orange pork spareribs stands out for me, because of it's tenderness and sweet tasted pork that's perfect to be a viand for rice.

Their beverages: shakes, juices, beers, coffees and teas would be a great thirst quencher and soul reflecting because you may have your good memories flashback once you sip in.

Warm place, good food and accommodating staffs would blend it all into a spot called cafe 1771: a bookworm's cafe.

Cafe 1771
Smile 2012-10-18
I was running late so I was rushing in to Cafe 1771. However, when I saw the interiors of the place, I literally had to stop myself and capture the image in front of me. It was so picturesque and charming.

Isn't it quaint? After I had my fill of photos, I headed to the second floor and ordered my drink. This is the Cafe Grand Marnier (Php270) and before you can actually enjoy it, the server makes a grand presentation for it needs to be on fire before it can be drank. It is freshly brewed coffee with grand marnier and cream. It makes a great combination of orange and coffee flavor.

I personally did not like it because I found the liquor too strong. However, I seem to be the odd one out since the others finished it in one sitting.

Dinner was finally served after a few minutes and I was in for a pleasant surprise because Cafe 1771 sure knows how to fill one's tummy. Amongst the food prepared was this spaghetti with sardines and fried capers. For only Php380, you can feast on spaghetti tossed in sardines, fried with garlic, and topped with capers and toasted breadcrumbs. It was oh so good!

When I initially saw this, I wasn't too happy. I was still reeling from The Burger Project and Zarks so I took only one quarter of this burger. BIG MISTAKE! I should have taken the entire burger because it was just so freakin' good. No, scratch that. It was AWESOME!

The Winebar Burger was served with gruyere cheese and made of 200g certified Angus beef patty nestled inside a homemade brioche bun. They serve it with lettuce, roasted Baguio tomato, grilled onions, a homemade dill pickle, french fries, and a side of bone marrow.

SINFULLY GOOD!

Next was the organic chicken and we all know how much I love chickens. This one gladly did not fail and for only Php560, you get to eat healthy fried chicken. Sounds like an oxymoron right? Still, worth a try!

The orange pork spareribs (Php450) was stewed in long simmered sauce made of soy sauce, orange juice, garlic, and ginger. You'd definitely taste the orange and soy but none of the garlic and ginger which was fine by me. Plus factor: pork was super soft it literally melts in your mouth.

At Php250, the Gianduja Truffle Mousse Cake was the most tempting of all. Layers of gianduja truffle mousse using a white and dark Valrhona chocolate with homemade marshmallow and brownie fudge, it simply melts in your mouth. You won't even care that it will stay on your hips. You just want more, more, more!

The Amandelle costs Php300. Made of milk chocolate mousse in between layers of orange creme brulee and caramelized apricot and almond dacquoise, this one was energizing yet relaxing. The orange eneregizes you but the chocolate gives you that calm feeling. Crazy combination but it actually works.

The coffee pie was the house best seller. One bite and you'd understand why. Made of coffee filling on chocolate cashew crust with cream topping and toffee sauce, this was definitely Chateau 1771's signature dessert. It was so creamy but not overpowering. Price: Php220.

Aside from the sumptuous food and the great ambience, what made last night truly memorable was the FANTASTIC SERVICE! It is now so rare to find a restaurant that has food, ambience, and service in one complete package. I'm really glad that Cafe 1771 delivers all 3 and they do it with style and with grace.

BURP! Kudos Cafe 1771.

Coffee, A Burger and Dessert at Cafe 1771
Smile 2012-10-18
It's been quite some time since my last visit to El Pueblo, with Chateau 1771 being an old favorite. A recent visit to El Pueblo brought back some good memories, and some awesome food.

Cafe 1771's interiors evoke a warm, almost playful and casual vibe, and one immediately feels at home. Just the perfect spot for breakfast, a late afternoon snack or an intimate dinner.

Cafe 1771's Grand Marnier Coffee, just the perfect brew if you love a little alcohol with your coffee. The full-bodied coffee combines well with the sharp notes of the Grand Marnier, perfect after a meal, or in this case, a prelude to a good meal at Cafe 1771.

The WineBar's Angus Burger with Bone Marrow, served with thick cut steak fries and a sweet sour dill pickle. Spread some marrow on the bun to add an extra richness to an already perfect burger. This is one serious burger...

Cafe 1771's signature Coffee Pie, a perfect end to a perfect dinner at Cafe 1771, best paired with coffee, or perhaps some wine.

Premium priced, but definitely well worth it. And after all these years, the quality of the food remains as good as I remember, maybe even better. And with excellent service and some really cool interiors, Cafe 1771 is still the place to be at El Pueblo. It was great to be back at Cafe 1771, like seeing an old friend, it was like coming back home.

Best Grilled dishes ever!
Smile 2012-08-29
Our sales team decided to eat at Chateau 1771 in El Pueblo Real de Manila ADB Ave. cor. Dona Julia Vargas, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. While we had this sales planning we enjoyed the cozy place of this restaurant and then we tried their dishes so we ordered their Grilled Chicken served with rice and with mashed potato and it was so so delicious and so heathy as well this serving is good for two people and we also tried their Grilled Baby Back ribs served with rice and mashed potato as well. The taste of this baby back ribs was superb the glaze was so good and it deeply infused to the meat and as you slice the beef you will feel the soft and juicy meat passing through the edges of the knife. The dishes here all inspired by american cuisine and the servings here are so big. We enjoyed our meeting at this place and enjoyed the great food as well.

Chateau 1771
Just OK 2012-02-29
I remembered I always passed by Chateau 1771 when I was still working in Ortigas but I never had a chance trying out this place. I always wanted to try this and good thing my sister accompanied me to this restaurant when we went to Medical City for her check up. Foods were delicious especially their desserts. It’s pricey but all worth it. The place was also nice. It was clean and the service was fast. We really enjoyed our stay.
