Ang Pulo is a place where you can feel at home offering foods at your taste. What a relaxing way to eat a sizzling bangus. It's yummy dipping with it in a chilly flavored soy sauce mixed with lemon to taste. It also offers a crunchy nachos shredded with cheese and a great taste for every bite.

Ang Pulo-tan

It does sound a little intriguing for “ang pulo”, which literally means an island, to be located in the heart of Ortigas. But it worked well for me and my gang as we looked for a place to guzzle some beer and gag each other out for a night. If you ask me personally, ang “pulo” stands for ang “pulotan” cuz believe me when I say to you that their pulutan there is crazy good, that you can get yourself drunk on their food instead. The food that struck me most are the isaw and the dynamite. I’ve been an isaw lover since highschool but in Pulo, I enjoyed it very much cuz it captured the native street taste of isaw without the risk of hepa B. The dynamite on the other hand was a blast. It is fried chilli with some beef and it’s a great way to force your friends to drink more beer. With cold beer, great ambiance and great food, Ang pulo was indeed an island paradise in the heart of a city. Cheers!

Treat for myself

One of the greatest way of spending a great celebration, like my own birthday, is to have it with friends.

Admittedly, it was a lat minute decision to have a quick get together with friends and workmates.

Since our office is Ortigas, my best option was Ang Pulo. Very accessible to most and the food and drinks are affordable.

You can imagine its there actually. It is in the heart of the 2nd hand car store and across a badminton court.

It's a 3 floor area they have some KTV rooms (though you need to consume a minimum amount). The first floor is what will welcome you when you enter, there is another floor which covers a deck, we took the 3rd flr or actually the deck already since at 530pm and on a friday, the place is already full.

I was able to pull a few tables together and ordered in advance.

Since its a birthday, expect foods and booze to be the primer of the night. Beer is affordable, a bucket of Beer Below Zero is 199. I got the Pancit Bihon (large size), crispy pata, pinaputok na bangus (as in big bangus), Dynamite (ground beef wrapped in chili), sisig, bulalo, bbq, and isaw.

All of the food are great. The BBQ is the house special, it won't be your typical BBQ from commercialized fastfood, but it has that distinct taste of Inasal, which it will go well with vinegar. If you miss the Isaw in your nearby neighborhood, then its your chance to get it here.

The Pinaputok na Bangus is very good, even it is sized for a group, when you start munching, I'm pretty sure you'll consume it by yourself. actually, its a good "pulutan" for the Kungfu's (Kung Pumulutan, Malupit) smile.

What I like most is the Dynamite. Its a chili filled with ground beef enclosed in a lumpia wrapper then deep fried. Served with a mayo deep. The spicy taste and sweet blend makes it a great companion for a freezing beer.

Service is almost great. It's my 2nd time here actually. The first time I was in the 1st floor, we were accommodated properly, however, on the 3rd flr, it was totally different story. I guess it because of the jumpacked crowd. The place was filled that night and the waiters cannot accommodate us very much.

But with great venue, good food, and cold beer... things will be okay.
