WINE AND FOOD FESTIVAL AT OAKROOM
Oakroom matches fabulous South Australian wines with exquisite Australian fare

Indulge in an array of South Australian wines matched by popular Australian cuisine in “A Taste of Australia”, a wine and food festival running March 7 to 27, 2011 at the Oakroom restaurant of Oakwood Premier Joy~Nostalg Center in Ortigas.

Featured wines are:

  • Grant Burge Benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay
  • St Hallet Faith Shiraz and Eden Valley Riesling
  • D’ Arenburg Stump Jump Grenache/Shiraz/Mouvedre and Riesling/Marsanne/Sauvignon Blanc

Grant Burge Wines has been described as a five-star winery by Australia’s leading wine critic James Halliday. For the Benchmark line, majority of the grapes are harvested from the Barossa Valley, and additional fruits sourced from other premium grape growing regions in South Australia.

St. Hallett is known for its prized “old vine” Shiraz. This comes from Barossa vineyards which date back 60 to 100 years, giving it a highly-unique quality over time. St. Hallett is equally reputed for its Riesling from the Eden Valley which has won six trophies over the last three vintages.

Stump Jump by d’Arenberg are young, fun and engaging. The name is a tribute to the stump-jump “plough”, an Australian invention used to ride over stumps and gnarled roots to clear the land for wine cultivation. D’Arenberg was named “Winery of the Year” and Stump Jump, “Wine of the Year” in 2010 by wine.com, the world’s leading online wine retailer. As further testament to the brand’s excellence, the 3rd generation owner, Francis d’Arenberg Osborn, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his contributions to the wine industry and to the McLaren Vale region.

Oakwood Premier’s General Manager Brian Connelly says, “We are thrilled to feature a range of great wines from the iconic Barossa and Eden Valleys, known for its Shiraz and Riesling among others. The “aged” vines  go well with the lamb and steak while the “Stumpies” -- best while they are “young”, match the lighter fare. Grant Burge matches anything in-between. This festival is truly an adventure in wine appreciation.”

To complement the wines are Australian fare by Oakwood Premier’s Executive Chef Jerome Cartailler, including Tajima Wagyu Beef Striploin, Braised Lamb Shank, Sauteed Barramundi Fillet and a selection of Australian cheeses.

Oakroom’s “A Taste of Australia” is co-presented by Wine Depot, distributor of Grant Burge, St. Hallet, and D’Arenburg Stump Jump wines in the Philippines; as well as Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).
