Lantaw Floating Native Restaurant
This is my first time to go to Cebu City. My friend and I were planning this trip for several months already and part of that planning includes tons of research through the internet on where to go, what to buy, and where to eat. When I checked the list that I have made for this trip, Lantaw Floating Native Restaurant was not included. We were so lucky that my friend's mom grew up here plus they have so many relatives that are willing to give us a tour.
Her aunt heard about this place a few days ago and according to her, this place has just opened a month ago. They too have not tried eating here yet so I guess it is going to be a whole treat to everybody.
They say Lantaw means "view", "by the sea", or "overlooking". But when I checked the meaning through internet, it stated there that it means "From a Distance". From a distance from the restaurant, you can see mountains. And on the other side of it, there were tall buildings.
The restaurant has two parts. The first part (where we were) is a typical native restaurant with wooden furniture that situated on top of the sea. The ambiance has really that traditional provincial setting. It was hot, very sunny, but windy at the same time. I liked it. It was so relaxing. You can really feel that you are on a vacation.
While waiting for our food to be served, my friend and I went to the other part of the restaurant for picture taking. It was not fully set-up yet like the one where we dined but it was more open and it looked like it had a small stage on it. It has lamps made of bamboo tree that were not lit. I felt this is more of a floating restaurant than the main restaurant because you can feel the water's movement.
According to my friend's aunt, this place look even more beautiful at night because everything will be lit up. No wonder some of the locals there waited a long time to be seated during dinner because everybody wants to stay on that second part of the restaurant with lots of lights.
And now, the favorite part of everyone, the one everybody has been waiting for, Lantaw's food. Was the long travel really worth it? Let's see.
For our starters, we ordered Crispy Kangkong and Cordova Express.
Cordova Express is Cebu's version of Bicol Express. It has small shrimps, and chopped green peppers that looked like Jalapeño that swam in Coconut milk that was placed in an empty coconut shell.
The presentation was spectacular. It really impressed me. When I tasted it, it was superb. It was not as spicy as the Bicol Express because apart from the coconut milk, it has also a mixture of coconut meat and coconut juice.
One of our main dishes was their Baked Scallops. I didn't hesitate anymore because I love cheese so much and seafood plus I was hungry from the long trip. The scallops were great. They were fresh and the cheese were overloaded. I think I was the one who ate the most. Burp...
As for our drinks, we ordered a large pitcher of Lantaw Cooler. I think this was their version of Four Seasons. It has orange, calamansi, and watermelon. It was uber refreshing. It was not that sweet or sour. It was great. And the glasses that they used were like small jars of mayonnaise or peanut butter. It was very unique.
Overall, I wish I could stay longer to experience Lantaw at night. I saw some of the blogs that the place was fantastic in the evening. The scenery was breathtaking. I can't wait to try more of their dishes like the Spicy Scallops which is also their best seller. Food is great. The place was beautiful. The price is super budget friendly even for big groups. What more could you ask for?
